The structure of the dog center and maintenance.
Warin has a 60 x 40 meter piece of land for the dogs where they can run around and where they are fed and cared for.
New dogs that are often injured, sick, or in need of medical help are temporarily isolated from the group.
They are screened for diseases and are vaccinated for the various diseases as stray dogs usually are suffering from. Animal lovers and animal traders do not vaccinate their dogs in Thailand since they do not want to spend the money!!
As much as possible, Warin does the screening and the eventual treatment herself since veterinarians in Thailand are not prepared to work without payment.
Once the dogs have recovered, they are added to the group in small numbers, because weak dogs are quickly killed in a group when they don't have their place and rank in the pack yet.
Twice a year a group of veterinarians usually comes to Bangkok to sterilise new dogs. Warin then tries to catch as many temple dogs as possible so that they will also be neutered.
The doctors do not receive any payment for this, but Warin must provide meals and beverages. Outside of this, cost for transport and materials used for sterilization also have to come out of Warin's pocket.
Dog food consists for most part of rice with pieces of fish waste which Warin can buy cheaply, since Huayang is a fishing village. There is simply no money for meat or real dog food.
These dogs have no hope at finding families that want to adopt them. When that would happen it would be a dream come true, because these are not purebred dogs and therefore nobody wants them.
This means that the dogs stay in the kennel, because putting them back on the street would bring them back to the same harrowing position as where they came from.
Help for the temple dogs
Every day Warin goes together with 2 volunteers to the area where the temples are to feed dogs on the street and if necessary they provide medical help. Unfortunately, the monks themselves do very little for these dogs, so the animals around the temples often are starving and sick.
